Built for people who
think in plain text

Notara is a local-first Markdown note-taking application. Notes are stored as plain .md files on your machine. No account, no cloud, no subscription — just a fast, distraction-free editor that respects your privacy and gives you full ownership of your data.

Why Notara

The ideas behind the app

Your data, your machine

Notes are plain .md files in a folder you pick. Back them up with git, Dropbox, or anything you trust. No proprietary format, no lock-in.

No cloud, no tracking

Zero network requests. Zero analytics. Zero telemetry. The app never phones home. You can run it air-gapped and it works exactly the same.

Open source

MIT licensed. Read every line of code on GitHub, fork it, audit it, or contribute back. No vendor promises — the source is the truth.

Fast by design

No Electron bloat-traps. Startup is quick, search is instant, and the editor never lags — because all data is local and there are no round-trips.
